About The Service:

The team is responsible for delivering a front-line service.  We deliver a variety of road safety and active travel initatives to children, young people and adults who live, work or study in Cardiff.

About The Job:

The purpose of the job is to plan, support and deliver independent travel training to young people and adults with additional learning needs. The training will generally be delivered on a 1:1 basis, with the aim of providing trainees with the necessary skills and confidence to travel independently to and from their education provision. Training will also be delivered 1:1 or in small groups during the day.

This post is temporary until 31st March 2025, but maybe extended subject to funding.

In your training period you will work with existing members of the team to shadow them.

We currently offer fully trained staff the opportunity to work partially from home if this is appropriate and you have a safe, secure area to work.

What We Are Looking For From You:

Working days vary depending on who is being trained, what activities you have planned that day and the bus or train routes that are needed to get there.

Most of the provisions start between 9am to 10am, but there are some trainees who start their provision in the afternoon. The provisions vary, they are mainly located within Cardiff, but some are in the surrounding areas.

Below there are 2 examples of days where 1:1 and group travel training sessions are taking place.

Day 1:

  • 7.50am – Arrive at trainee 1’s house.
  • 7.55am – Start training with the trainee.
  • (Walk to bus stop, catch bus to city centre, change buses, walk from bus stop to trainees’ provision)
  • 8.45am – Arrive at the provision.
  • 9am – Trainee attends their provision. Trainer catches a bus to another location.
  • 9.30am – Group session starts (9.30-12).
  • (Off site training with a small group of trainees – walking and catching buses)
  • Lunch break
  • 1pm – Admin time.
  • 2pm – Trainer catches the bus to another location.
  • 2.45pm – Trainer meets trainee 1 at their provision.
  • (Walk to bus stop, catch bus to city, change buses and walk to trainee 1’s home)
  • 4.20pm – Finish work after updating trainee 1’s parent.

Day 2:

  • 8.55am – Arrive at trainee 2’s house.
  • 9am – Start training with the trainee.
  • (Walk to the bus stop and catch the bus to the provision)
  • 9.25am – Arrive at the provision.
  • 9.30am – Trainee starts their provision.
  • Start a 1:1 session from the same provision teaching road safety skills in the local area.
  • Lunch break
  • 1pm – Admin time.
  • 3pm – Meet trainee 2 and travel to their home.
  • 3.45pm – Finish work after Updating pupil 2’s parent.
