Job Description

Are you a skilled bricklayer looking to develop a career in teaching? Are you already a brickwork teacher looking for a new role? Coleg Sir Gar have an exciting opportunity for a Casual Lecturer in Brickwork, based at our Ammanford Campus. This is a great opportunity to inspire the next generation of learners at Coleg Sir Gar.

This role is for approximately 12 hours per week.

The Built Environment curriculum area is part of the Construction & Agriculture Faculty and has 340 full-time and 350 apprentices and part-time learners, with most of the construction related education and training delivered at Ammanford campus.

The provision includes building crafts, plumbing and electrical trades, construction technician and management courses. The curriculum also delivers level 2 construction qualifications to over 300 year 10 and 11 school pupils at Ammanford campus and at the purpose built Vocational Skills Centre at Bryngwyn School, Llanelli.

The Built Environment curriculum area also offers an extensive range of short courses which offer bespoke provision to meet current and future industry needs. Built Environment continues to receive many accolades and awards for its learning outcomes, employer engagement and innovative programmes. Participation by the curriculum area in skills competitions is also well embedded with learners achieving several medals at various skills competitions.

The Built Environment curriculum area has also been recognised over a number of years for its excellent collaborative partnerships with employers, local authorities, suppliers and manufacturers. Working closely together, the partnership continues to deliver highly successful training projects and initiatives for industry and the wider community.

The Built Environment curriculum area is very proud of its achievement which has resulted in learners achieving in excess of 85% successful outcomes for their qualifications. This has resulted in Coleg Sir Gâr being in the top quartile of high performing Built Environment curriculum areas in Wales.

What will you be doing?

As a lecturer in brickwork, you will be responsible for high quality teaching and assessments of learners on our programmes of study. You will liaise with third party stakeholders including sector skills councils, industrial bodies, partner schools, employers and other higher educational institutions. 

You will ensure your learners have the very best experience with an inclusive learning environment that promotes learner engagement, participation, and success. 

What do you need?

A teaching qualification would be advantageous, but not essential. If you don’t have a teaching qualification, but relevant industrial experience related to brickwork, we would love to hear from you. We may be able to support you to gain your teaching qualification whilst you are employed with us. 

You will need relevant qualifications in brickwork and experience of teaching/mentoring others. This doesn’t have to be experience within a classroom environment. You will need excellent communication skills, be highly organised, and a passion to want a make a difference to others.
