Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide specialist skills in relation to all Grounds maintenance tasks including tree planting, hedge and grass cutting and maintenance in both cyclical work patterns and arising issues.

Main Tasks performed

  • To provide a high level of skill relating to the borough’s Parks management on scheduled and emergency work.
  • To deal with all matters relating to Grounds maintenance including tree felling, hedge maintenance, grass maintenance, shrub and border management.
  • Abide by current generic risk assessments and carry out site specific risk assessments prior to work. Carry out dynamic risk assessments during schedule work and during emergency incidents.
  • Use of technology such as smart phone/tablet applications for work requirements.
  • Be responsible for one’s own equipment safety, flagging when checks/maintenance is required.
  • Deal with members of the public on site and ensure safe areas of work are cordoned off and maintained to ensure safety of staff and members of the public.
  • To give advice and risk assess issues queried by members of the public on council and in the interests of public safety.
  • Use of various grounds maintenance vehicles such as ride on mowers, tractors, mini diggers etc.
  • Responsible for the safe use and security and routine maintenance of all equipment such as van/gator, chainsaws, hedge cutters, strimmer’s, mowers etc.
  • Help promote ecology and biodiversity within Parks.
  • Safe use of pesticides/herbicides to manage park land areas.
  • To carry out Health & Safety responsibilities in accordance with the Authority’s Health & Safety policies.
  • To carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade as reasonably requested by the manager.
