Consultant Social Worker (Race) CSW(R)

  • Full time, fixed term 18 months
  • Salary Scale F scale points o to iv (o £51,910 to iv £67,624),
  • Hybrid – working from home with occasional travel in Wales and the UK

The British Association of Social Workers Cymru (BASW Cymru) is looking for an experienced social work practitioner who will act as a driver and catalyst for change for this newly created post of Consultant Social Worker (Race).

Funded by the Welsh Government and its National Office for Care and Support, you will work with professionals and representative professional bodies, ADSS, Social Care Wales, CIW, HIW, Local Authorities and WLGA to: raise awareness, improve knowledge, identify training opportunities and demonstrate success through impact assessments and evaluations in service delivery.

The post holder will advise on delivery of social work practice and the professional development of those working in the sector to ensure development of practice in working with individuals at risk of disadvantage based on ethnic origin. Thereby, supporting communities to improve the service they receive, and identify improvement and reform for the sector based on effective policies and procedures, strong evidence and robust data.

The postholder will be supported by a reference group of professionals and people with lived experience. The work will be supported by guidance and training that builds the trust and confidence of professionals to positively support care needs for members of ethnic minority groups and communities. The postholder will link with the Chief Social Care Officer for Wales to ensure ongoing engagement with people with lived experience, the workforce and employers to ensure continued improvement in the sector.

We are looking for an individual who can drive change forwards and at pace, work in partnership with practitioners and key stakeholders and has experience of working with marginalised individuals and communities to deliver and embed real with identifiable outcomes. This role will suit people who use initiative, work with a high degree of autonomy and can function as a key player and colleague in a small and dynamic team whilst simultaneously influencing strategic stakeholders in service delivery.
