Job Description

Primary purpose and function of position:

To support the ES Manager with technical & administrative support to provide direction to the site in the area of environmental and safety related issues. To ensure the site complies with all associated legislative and corporate standards in relation to Safety and the Environment.

Operational Leadership

  • Supports effective ES training/communication and co-ordination across the brewery, with specific reference to ES Inductions & the organisation, development & delivery of training
  • Supports ES team with the day to day delivery of ES performance as required through VPO so as to achieve the Site ES targets
  • Analyses and reports ES performance tools including hazards, finances and safety observations.
  • Assists the ES team in the management of contractor processes with regard to relevant ES policies, permits and procedures inclusive of induction, training & assessment
  • Ensures full site compliance will all Statutory, Company and VPO ES requirements, including, but not restricted to:
  • Supporting the delivery of ES management systems
  • Ordering ES equipment and services using SAP and following up with suppliers regarding payments
  • Utilising SAP and excel spreadsheets for ES processes and budgets
  • Administration to ensure compliance with safety & environmental legislation in relation to by-products, waste management and waste water treatment
  • Administration duties including SAP follow up
  • Organising First Aid Training, ES corporate away days and Safety Representative Program
  • Supporting the management of PPE / ES safety equipment / First aid supplies
  • Liaising with external companies and authorities for example NRW, HSE, Apleona
  • Supporting accident reporting and investigation
  • Supporting SIF reporting & investigation
  • Supporting Environmental reporting & investigation
  • Supporting the Safety Behaviour Observation (SBO) and Environment walk programmes
  • Supporting ES training and initiatives across site
  • Coaching colleagues to share ES knowledge
  • Supporting the analysis of ES performance
  • Supporting the completion of ES corrective actions
  • Supporting new site projects with ES advice
  • Supporting Safety Rep and Champion programs
  • Implementing ES team projects and programs
  • Supporting ES department management pillar requirements e.g. 5S and KPI reporting
  • Supports the profile of ES both internally and with our external stakeholders through promotional activity and initiatives
  • Balances the constant search for new improved ways of working, together with the sustained implementation of agreed ways of working
  • Acts as driver for ES improvements across the site
  • Ensures responsibility and accountability are driven to and enforced at the lowest level within the day to day operations
  • Supporting the ES Manager to deliver risk reduction programmes and initiatives
  • Confidence to work across site challenging and coaching behaviour of employees at all levels

Key Skills, Knowledge & Competencies:

Education

  • Qualifications in Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Health and Safety or Business Studies are beneficial but completing the NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent NVQ qualification will be expected.

Experience

  • Health and Safety experience in a unionized FMCG operation
  • Experience of meeting challenging targets and KPIs
  • Understanding of management systems, preferably within ES environment
  • Understanding of working with Safety and Environmental principles and techniques
  • A sound knowledge of manufacturing principles, tools and techniques
  • Experience of delivering process improvement
  • Understanding of supporting/promoting good sound contractor & stakeholder relationships

Technical Competencies

  • Good organization skills working to agreed deadlines
  • Demonstrates negotiation skills and empathy towards colleagues
  • Basic business sense, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Computer skills (E-Mail, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Project etc.)
  • SAP knowledge is beneficial
