Job Description

Main purpose of the post

To be responsible for the simple preparation of meals, setting up service, and cleaning of catering operation, to the agreed standard. 

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Simple preparation of meals e.g. preparation of vegetables, drinks, cooking of chips and cooking of prepared products and dishes.
  • Setting up of Servery Counter / Point of Service of food, practicing portion control as per guidelines, also ensuring good food presentation. 
  • After initial training, where required, to operate iPad-Citrus (school catering data system).
  • Preparation and carrying of food and equipment to point of sales area, and cleaning afterwards. Also setting up of the dining area where applicable.
  • Washing up of crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils, ensuring Food Hygiene and Health and Safety practices are followed.
  • Removal of waste products and rubbish from all eating areas.
  • Maintaining a clean work area by regular cleaning of all equipment, store rooms and ancillary areas, to ensure that high standards are achieved and maintained. Promote and sell through encouragement and friendliness towards the customers, whilst portraying a professional approach through correct dress and appearance.
  • Identify own training needs and undertake training as required.
  • Complete and sign timesheet.
  • To undertake such duties as may be reasonably required of you, commensurate with your salary grade and within your capabilities.

  • To deliver high quality standards

Knowledge

  • Have a good working knowledge of Health & Safety practices
  • Have a good working knowledge of Food Safety practices

Education and training

  • No formal qualifications required, however the post holder must be prepared to undertake training in ‘Basic Food Hygiene’ and any relevant training required for the post.
