About the role:  

JGW+ is looking for a passionate and dedicated Youth Learning Mentor to join our team. In this role, you will create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where young learners can thrive. You will support learners in achieving their qualifications, manage classroom behaviour, and provide tailored one-on-one and group assistance.

You may be required to travel to different centres to support learners.

ACT is committed to promoting the Welsh language for both staff and learners, and whilst it is not considered essential criteria, the ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role. 

What we need from you:

  • Experience of working with challenging, disengaged learners
  • Experience of working with young people with Additional Learning needs and/or Learning Disability/Difficulty.
  • Youth Work or Teaching Assistant/teaching Qualification or equivalent (or willing to work towards one as condition of employment)
  • Minimum of 5 GCSE (or equivalent) grade C or above
  • Ability to develop others
  • Team player with ability to work on own initiative
  • Creative & passionate for training/learning

What you will be doing:

  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation and ensures learner safety during activities and breaks.
  • Report safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Person according to ACT policy, providing detailed incident and damage reports as necessary.
  • Manage classroom behaviour constructively, maintaining discipline in line with ACT Standards and School Policy, and implement effective behaviour management strategies while supporting delivery staff.
  • Address disruptive behaviour using appropriate de-escalation techniques, including physical intervention when required.
  • Supervise learners during breaks and lunch, supporting their qualification progress through individual and group assistance.
  • Mentor learners needing additional support, helping them set and review targets in line with ACT standards.
  • Assist JGW+ Skills Tutors with curriculum delivery and resource development, and manage the ordering and maintenance of stationery and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner performance and progress, including attendance and relevant data.
  • Perform administrative duties to ensure smooth programme operations and complete any additional tasks requested by the Delivery Manager.
  • Ensure equality and fair treatment of all individuals at all times while adhering to and promoting ACT’s environmental practices.
