Job Description

We currently have three Teaching Assistant Level 3 posts vacant at the Pupil Referral Unit. Maes Derw caters for 158 pupils from across schools in Swansea aged between 5-16 years. All of our pupils have mental health, anxiety or social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD) and so, recent and relevant experience of working with pupils who have social, emotional and behavioural needs is essential.

Purpose of the Post:

  • To work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff and within an agreed system of supervision, to implement agreed work programmes with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom.
  • This could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources.
  • Staff may also supervise whole classes occasionally during the short term absence of teachers.
  • The primary focus will be to maintain good order and to keep pupils on task.
  • Post holders will need to respond to questions and generally assist pupils to undertake set activities.

All posts are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Under the Education (Wales) Act 2014, all School Learning Support Workers will need to be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) from 1st April 2016.

The posts will be available to start as soon as possible. As these posts are term time, they are subject to a term time only adjustment if the commencement of employment is outside of the academic year start and end date i.e. 1st September/31st August.
