Job Description

The post holder is primarily employed to provide emergency repairs and routine maintenance of emergency and non-emergency vehicles. The post holder is required to carry out efficiently and to the required manufacturers and Trust standards the servicing, repair and maintenance of a range of vehicles from ambulance and non- ambulance service vehicles to light commercial and Heavy Goods vehicles and cars from various vehicle manufacturers.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Receive programme of work allocated on a daily/weekly basis from Workshop Supervisor, and working alone or as part of a team carry out work schedule within the allotted time scale.

Be fully conversant with all appropriate ambulance derived vehicles/car specifications, including Mercedes and Renault, and attend relevant training courses as required to maintain knowledge and skill levels and to keep up with manufacturers’ vehicles or equipment modifications.

Use own knowledge and skills and utilise electronic diagnosis equipment to identify/ analyse cause of vehicle or equipment faults and problems to rectify them or to assist with appropriate cost-effective repair or replacement recommendations.

Carry out repair and maintenance work on a range of items of Trust equipment, requiring specialised training/accreditation such as all stretcher equipment either mechanical/ hydraulic.,(easy load stretchers, hydraulic Falcon stretchers, and to include all makes and types of carrying equipment and securing systems), Millennium fixing systems (wheelchair and incubator in vehicle securing devices), Eberspacher heaters, ramp doors, Rolac ramp, electrical equipment on vehicles such as audio/visual warning systems and power supplies up to specialised equipment in saloons, repairs to winches and generators, radios, decontamination units and trailers, and where applicable Police vehicles, also be prepared for all future developments and modifications.
