Overall Job Purpose:

To lead, manage and coordinate the strategic direction, delivery and performance of the Energy Island Programme to ensure its objectives and outcomes are achieved, and the anticipated benefits are realised, to enable the island to capitalise upon all socio-economic opportunities arising from the proposed low carbon developments.

The Isle of Anglesey County Council’s Energy Island Programme (EIP) has been in place for over 15 years and is a well-regarded and influential programme at local, regional, Welsh and UK level. The Programme has been established to ensure that the Island can be exemplar in the transition to a prosperous and resilient low carbon and renewable energy economy, through ensuring the provision of high-quality local jobs, skill and supply chain opportunities whilst ensuring the protection and enhancement of the natural environment and enabling the Welsh Language and culture to thrive in vibrant communities.

The post will focus on the management and delivery of the Energy Island Programme (including the Project Management Office) to support a thriving and prosperous local economy, and to achieve Corporate / Service objectives and outcomes. 

The role demands specialist knowledge, awareness and understanding of the potential transformational socio-economic opportunities such developments could bring to the Island, as well as the associated challenges and constraints. Taking advantage of these opportunities will require long term effort and capabilities to facilitate co-ordination, collaboration and integration between key local, regional and national stakeholders (from both the public and private sectors) to maximise positive impacts and benefits for Anglesey.

The role also requires an in depth understanding, experience and knowledge of the consenting process associated with such forms of developments to ensure that the Council fully and effectively fulfils its role and is able to identify, advise and influence with regards to the potential impacts (both negative and positive impacts) for the local host communities.
