Job Description

Job Reference: 16962

Are you passionate about improving the lives of children and young people? Do you want to work for an employer who places great importance on high quality supervision, wellbeing and career development?

Bridgend County Borough Council offers great opportunities to further your social work career. We are now in a position to recruit a permanent Deputy Team Manager who can assist the Team Manager and support Social Workers in assessing and supporting children and their families across the county borough.

We are currently recruiting for a Deputy Team Manager who will be based within our Safeguarding Locality Teams. Our Locality Teams are currently based within three community hubs around the county borough. However, as part of recent restructure plans a fourth safeguarding hub is being created. The restructure will mean smaller case management teams and more manageable caseloads, with social work practice within Child and Family Services being underpinned by a strengths based approach within a collaborative and supportive environment.

Our targeted Family Support Services are co-located with our Locality Teams to provide a continuum of services ranging from early help to intensive provision to families with complex needs. We also have teams who offer expertise in relation to children with disabilities, care experienced children and young people aged 16 and over who are entitled to leaving care services.

We would love to hear from experienced Social work practioners who are registered with Social Care Wales, have at least 3 years experience and who are keen to progress in their social work career. The successful candidate will receive a robust induction, regular supervision, additional support and mentoring if required and will have opportunities for further career development.

In 2023 Children’s Social Care launched the ‘Signs of Safety’ social work model which underpins all of our practice in Bridgend County Borough Children’s Services. All new staff will be provided with the appropriate training to support them to develop their practice in line with the principles of the model.

We are a reflective organisation that continuously builds on its strengths and is committed to the principle that the most effective way of improving outcomes for all children, young people and families is through the provision of accessible, universal services. Protecting children, young people and adults deemed to be at risk is considered to be the core responsibility of all council employees.

Working in a rewarding and educational environment where staff feel valued is what you can expect with Bridgend County Borough Council as your employer.

In addition to a competitive salary the post also attracts a Market Supplement of £5,000 and, where appropriate, a relocation package of up to £8,000.

Location: Bridgend County Borough Council

Salary: £45,718 - £47,754 per annum. (plus a £5,000 market supplement). A relocation package up to £8,000 will be considered for this post.

Bridgend County Borough Council
Company Information

Bridgend County Borough Council (Welsh: Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr) is the governing body for Bridgend County Borough, one of the Principal Areas of Wales.
Bridgend County Borough and Bridgend County Borough Council came into effect from 1 April 1996, following the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994. Bridgend County Borough Council largely replaced Ogwr Borough Council, though St Brides Major, Ewenny and Wick were transferred from Ogwr to the Vale of Glamorgan.
In November 2014 the council voted to propose a merger with the neighbouring Vale of Glamorgan Council, though this was rejected by the Welsh Government's Public Services Minister, Leighton Andrews, as not meeting the criteria to be able to proceed.
