Job Description

The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech RPS Energy is adding a Project Controls Lead to our Marine Consenting & Environment team. This role will lead our team of project controls professionals working across a range of offshore renewable, and oil and gas projects in the UK and Ireland, and globally as we continue to expand into new markets.

We operate a hybrid working arrangement and you can be based in Chepstow, Edinburgh, Woking, Aberdeen or London (home working can be considered). We have flexible working opportunities, including part time roles, to ensure a balance of family and working life.

We are at the forefront of the industry - delivering offshore infrastructure projects in complex marine environments including offshore wind farm developments. Our experience includes 20 years working across the UK, wider Europe, Americas, Australia and Asia. You’ll become a member of a deeply experienced marine consenting and environment team who have been selected as the lead Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA) consultant for some of the industry’s major “firsts”. These include the world’s largest offshore wind farms at the point of being constructed: Orsted’s Hornsea One, Two and Three, and Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm SSE’s Berwick Bank.

Your Role:

The Project Controls Lead will provide project governance (both internal and external) to help deliver Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitat Regulation Assessment (HRA) offshore renewable, and oil and gas projects to client expectations, and within agreed budgets and timescales.

  • You will provide line management, guidance, training opportunities and development to our team of 5 project controls professionals.
  • You will be responsible for managing and controlling cost estimates, actuals and forecasts, variations, and programmes across a portfolio of projects.
  • You will work closely with our Programme Management Office (PMO), bid, legal, project, and finance teams through the project life cycle from bid to project close out and de-brief, to ensure information is up to date, processes and systems run smoothly, and any issues are quickly resolved. 
  • Proposals, bids and variation – you will input into proposals, bids and variations with the bid team, Commercial Manager and technical consultancy team. Oversee proposals support across business unit. Provide executive proposals insights and recommendations.
  • Project controls execution support - Manage complex projects throughout the project lifecycle including project set-up, finances, scheduling and reporting, to timely completion of projects, within scope, and on budget.
  • Reporting – Coordinate and lead the setup and update of internal and external progress reporting, including Power BI reporting where required
  • Continuous improvement – You will analyse business unit data to support continuous improvement. Seek and implement improvements to internal processes related to portfolio, programme and project management.

Qualifications:

  • A Degree level or equivalent education in a related field, alongside a recognized Project Management qualification such as APM or Prince2
  • Strong database and data management skills, with in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Projects and/or Primavera P6.
  • Experience managing complex multi-disciplinary projects in a professional services environment, ideally with direct line management experience.
  • Proactive Problem Solver: you will be someone who isn’t satisfied with the status quo but will take the initiative to identify challenges and develop solutions.
  • Hands-On Approach: You will be someone who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and actively engage in all aspects of project management, from defining robust work breakdown structures to building and coordinating critical project schedules.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: In addition to meeting current project needs, we are looking for someone who actively seek and implement improvements to internal processes related to project management.
