Social Worker - Family Intervention Team

1. Our Family Intervention Team works closely with First Contact and Targeted Support to step up or step down cases when the need arises.
2. The purpose of the role is to provide a comprehensive social work service in a variety of settings within a framework of relevant legislation and procedures, supporting children, young people, families and groups.
3. The postholder will form, develop and maintain professional relationships with children and young people and their families through direct casework, supervision, shared activity and counselling.

Salary: Newly Qualified £33,024 – £35,745 Level 3 (Progressed through CPEL) £36,648 - £39,186

Our Family Intervention Team works closely with First Contact and Targeted Support to step up or step down cases when the need arises. You will join an established team that operates across our Children’s Services remit and will take responsibility for ensuring policies and processes are formulated and adhered to. You will have a caseload of child protection and court cases.

You must be a strong practitioner and have the ability to deliver a range of high quality, cost effective outcome focussed social care to children in need. The role requires evidence of effective knowledge of current practices and the expectations of Social Services in the matter of applied legal and practical skills.

Working with a wide variety of agencies and professionals the role requires commitment, flexibility and a thorough understanding of all relevant standards and the Social Services and Wellbeing Act (2014) Wales. The role demands the ability to build effective relationships with families, social services teams and forge strong collaborative partnerships with other agencies. In addition, the successful candidate will evidence a passion and determination to meet the demands of the role.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable.

Successful candidates must be registered with Care Council for Wales and as this post will result in you having substantial contact with children, and / or vulnerable adults and will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Services check.

Job Purpose:

To provide a comprehensive social work service in a variety of settings within a framework of relevant legislation and procedures, supporting children, young people, families and groups within the community. Social Workers will take responsibility for a caseload according to qualifications and experience.

Principal Accountabilities:

• To form, develop and maintain professional relationships with children and young people and their families through direct casework, supervision, shared activity and counselling, in such a way that the child/young person’s family’s needs are met.
• To provide a service, which meets primary needs, promotes development, and assists behavioural difficulties and vulnerabilities
• To identify and assess risk of abuse, failure to protect, or harm to children.
• To advise senior managers as to any concerns in respect of children/young people with particular reference to there being at risk of abuse or harm.
• To identify, contribute to and suggest ideas for good practice and its development, and to take a lead in a special area of responsibility.
• To value, recognise and respect the diversity, expertise and experience of individuals, families and carers and enable them to make informed decisions and express their needs.
• To challenge discrimination, disadvantage and other forms of inequality, injustice and oppressive practice.
• To maximise the financial and material resources available to service users and carer(s) from all possible sources and ensure value for money care packages.
• Ensure that service users and carers are aware of the Department’s Complaints procedures.
