We currently have senior social worker position in the newly formed Adult Community Team to support staff and the ongoingdevelopment of the team. You will have a dedicated group of staff to supervise andwill hold a small complex caseload.

The Adult Community Team provide long termsupport to adults with complex needs across Pembrokeshire and provides anopportunity to support a very hard working and dedicated group of staff who it is always a pleasure to work alongside.

Job Purpose:

To support the Team Manager and team colleagues to promote and ensure good quality assessment and care management are undertaken in line with the SS&WB ACT, thus maximising the independence of customers and protect those who are most vulnerable, through individual complex case load, informal and formal supervision of staff, and  involvement in individual, team and service development.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • In liaison with the Team/ Assistant Team Manager (as applicable), to oversee the daily running of the team, including complex case load, supervision, joint working and mentoring unqualified/ less experienced staff.
  • To deputise for the team/ Assistant team Manager and other team Senior Practitioners in respect of operational guidance in their absence, including screening and allocation as appropriate.
  • To supervise and carry out performance reviews (including first level sickness absence) in respect of designated team members and assist with their general professional development.
  • To chair case reviews/ MDT team meetings as appropriate.
  • To promote and participate in joint working with other statutory, voluntary and independent sector organisations.
  • To assist in the ongoing development of the team and take a lead on relevant issues, as delegated by the manager 
  • To contribute to strategic planning, the development of the Team Business Plan and the management of the Teams’ performance.
  • In consultation with the Service Manager/Team Manager, allocate and operate within available resources in a creative and flexible manner to maximise the benefits to customers and contribute to the accurate monitoring and evaluation of costs, outputs and outcomes.
  • To carry a caseload of complex cases, including Best Interest Assessment and support staff in undertaking complex assessments.
  • To operate through the CareFirst information system used in the department and produce performance management information as required.
  • Undertake the role or practice assessor and/or practice facilitator for student social workers on placement.
  • Undertake authorisation of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard’s applications.

Person Specification: 

  • Social Work Qualification (CQSW/DipSW/CSS) and Social Worker registration with the Care Council for Wales 
  • Substantial experience of working in appropriate area of service, including transferable skills/ knowledge
  • Detailed knowledge of legislation and guidance that underpins our duties, and understanding of how that translates into day to day practice
  • A thorough working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of software.
  • Be a qualified practice assessor and/or facilitator or undertake training to become one.
  • Proven ability to motivate staff.
  • Good organisation skills.
  • Experience of working within budget limits.
  • Evidence of innovative ability and service development.
  • Good communication skills and ability to negotiate with other agencies.
  • A valid driving licence.
