Skills Advisers x 2 – Inspiring Futures currently funded to 31/12/2024 through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund

Futureworks is seeking highly motivated and experienced Skills Advisers to join the Inspiring Futures project, a bespoke taught preparation for work and work experience initiative being delivered to secondary schools in Pembrokeshire.

The successful candidate will be passionate about empowering young people in their transition to the workforce and will play a pivotal role in enhancing existing school work experience offerings, focusing on employability skills, work placements, and building crucial partnerships with local organisations and employers

The project is designed to enhance the employability and transferable skills of Year 11, 12, and 13 pupils (15-18 year olds) transitioning to the post-16 world of work or work focused learning.

Key Responsibilities: 

Delivery Of Employability And Transferable Skills Course:

  • Design and deliver an interactive and engaging taught course focusing on key employability skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time-management, professionalism, networking, and job search skills.
  • Including the accreditation of vocational skills.
  • Collaborate with each school to tailor the course to meet the specific needs of their learners and integrate with the school's curriculum timetables.
  • Conduct external visits ‘insight experiences’ to employers and businesses, providing young people with valuable insights and experiences.

Supporting Careers Advice:

  • Collaborate with Careers Wales school-based Careers Advisers to provide specialist careers advice and guidance to pupils.
  • Establish a pathway for young people to access face-to-face careers advice, coordinating 3-way meetings with the School-based Careers Adviser.
  • Assist individuals in exploring career options, developing career plans, identifying necessary work skills, and providing effective job search strategies.

Work Experience Coordination:

  • Work closely with the project’s Employer Liaison and Work Placement Officers contributing to identifying potential employers and build partnerships with local businesses, non-profit organisations, and government agencies willing to participate in the work experience scheme.
  • Develop eligibility criteria for participating pupils and establish a schedule for the work experience programme.

Qualifications And Experience:

  • A relevant qualification or equivalent experience in careers guidance, teaching, or a related field.
  • Previous experience delivering employability skills courses and coordinating work experience programmes.
  • Experience of accrediting vocational qualifications.
  • Strong understanding of the needs and challenges faced by young people in their transition to the post-16 world.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with pupils, employers, and school staff effectively.
