What Is Great About This Role?

As a Floating Support Worker, you will be supporting people in their own homes across the south Powys area. Floating Support Workers also provide support in our two accommodation schemes, both based in Brecon, one of which is a young person’s service.

You will manage your own case load supported by the Manager and Lead Project Worker, agile working across the south Powys area. The role is varied, challenging and rewarding, working as part of a committed team to deliver a high standard of support.

Your Day Will Consist Of:

  • Motivate and encourage clients to participate in the community and to promote life and social skills.
  • Provide housing related support to enable clients to take on and/or sustain a tenancy to prevent homelessness whether within their own homes, within our accommodation based services or in other temporary accommodation.
  • Provide information and advice and support them in the pre and post tenancy stages of their resettlement.
  • Carry out all necessary administrative tasks in relation to the job, including developing risk assessments & risk management plans, needs assessments & support plans.

  • Help with potential benefits and registering with healthcare providers.
  • Ensuring the building is secure including health & safety checks and maintaining an awareness of who is in the building.

Our aim is to ensure we equip these individuals with the confidence, knowledge, and tools they need to manage their home independently, so it is essential that we teach them how and not do it for them. This is a challenging role and you will be faced with varying needs which can lead to frustrations when there is a lack of understanding of the housing issues, the people we support, face. You will work with a range of different personalities and behaviours so you will need to be able to adapt your approach to engage with a diverse cliental as well as have an awareness of the issues faced by people at risk of homelessness.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Please demonstrate in your application form how you:
  • Have knowledge of housing related support, benefit systems and HSG funding.
  • Have good organisation, IT and record keeping skills.
  • Can work part of a team and on an individual basis.
  • Deal with difficult situations.
  • Have good listening skills.

To be a great Support Worker, you don’t always need previous experience or qualifications. A good understanding of housing related support and welfare benefits or awareness of issues faced by people at risk of homelessness would be extremely useful in the role.

The shift pattern for this role will be predominately Monday – Friday, (days and evenings). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the service, weekend working is required with at least 1 in 8 weekends, although more may be required to meet the needs of the service.
