We have a tremendously challenging programme in front of us in the run-up to achieving 2030 net zero targets. New overhead lines, underground cables, substations, battery storage and subsea links are all needed – and quickly. Where you can join us in this role

You can be based in any of our collaborative and welcoming offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Croydon, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, and St Albans.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

Your primary focus in this role is to support the development and delivery of HVDC and FACTS activities. You’ll provide technical expertise in bids and proposals and represent the company in client meetings as a Principal HVDC Engineer, applying your experience and expertise to a range of exciting and interesting projects.

Your role will be varied and interesting covering the following HVDC and FACTS activities:

  • Feasibility and optioneering studies and OEM support Services
  • Design assurance and design reviews, OEM support services and technical bid reviews. Some original designs may also be involved.
  • Site and FAT visits.
  • Site pre-commissioning and commissioning oversight supervision
  • Due diligence, technical expert services
  • You will lead and develop the HVDC and FACTS team and may in future have line management, staff recruitment and people development responsibilities.

Working To Modernise The UK’s Energy Infrastructure:

AECOM has been recently appointed to provide design and consenting services for the UK's National Grid’s Great Grid Program, in a joint venture with Arup. This £9bn initiative aims to enhance the electricity transmission network, ensuring the integration of renewable energy sources, including offshore wind farms, into the grid by 2030, which will also support future projects beyond 2030. The project focuses on upgrading infrastructure to meet future energy demands, reduce fossil fuel dependency, and support the UK's net zero emissions target.

Qualifications:

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Professionally qualified in Electrical Engineering (CEng Chartered Engineer or working towards achieving this)
  • Demonstrate a significant knowledge of HVDC technology along with a grounding in general power systems engineering
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and requirements management
  • Understanding of functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between AC and HVDC systems
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of HVDC scheme design and system studies.
